Middle East & Africa Daily Briefing — 19 Aug 2026

The Industrial Development Authority just set the final deadline for steel license bids in Egypt. Here's what it means for the regional industrial sector.

⏳ 1️⃣ IDA Egypt — Steel License Deadline
Egypt's Industrial Development Authority announced that this Thursday is the final day to withdraw bid booklets for steel licenses.
This quick cutoff affects all local and foreign steel firms wanting to buy any of the eight open permits.
Firms must submit their technical papers fast to get a share of the 2.8 million tons of yearly production capacity.

2️⃣ CMA Kuwait — Trading Suspension
Kuwait's Capital Markets Authority has suspended both Dalqan Real Estate Co. and Al Masaken from trading on the stock exchange.
This move hits retail stock investors, market traders, and partners who hold shares in these two listed firms.
These suspended companies must now fix their late financial disclosures and clear up capital losses to resume market trading.

3️⃣ Bank of Mauritius — Treasury Notes
The Bank of Mauritius has issued the official prospectus for its new benchmark three-year Government of Mauritius Treasury Notes.
This sovereign debt sale affects commercial banks, local funds, and primary dealers who manage short-term cash and liquidity.
Bidders must send their tender forms before the cutoff in line with the bank's main auction rules.

4️⃣ Central Bank of Kuwait — Gulf Bank Conversion
Gulf Bank has finished all key regulatory and operational steps to get the central bank's nod for its conversion.
This shift affects retail bank clients, corporate savers, and other big banks operating in the local Islamic finance market.
The lender will now seek the final green light from the central bank to start its new Islamic operations.

5️⃣ dtic South Africa — Film Incentives
The Department of Trade Industry and Competition sent out a reassurance notice on the film and television incentive program.
This reassures local film producers, foreign movie crews, and creative crews who are waiting for government funding payouts.
The agency will go on checking pending claims to make sure the local film sector gets its financial help.

Beyond these priority updates, the Saudi Exchange resumed trading and approved Merrill Lynch KSA for market making on Sadr Logistics, while the Bank of Mauritius announced its seven-year bond auction results. Additionally, the Capital Markets Authority renewed AIC's treasury share dealing rights, and INTIC Mozambique partnered with Finland on a new cybersecurity strategy.
